LIMBANG: Teluk Brunei with its natural environment of mountains and beaches can become another tourist destination here which needed to be promoted.

Hence, all parties in Teluk Brunei must work together to promote the products available to compete with those overseas.

This was pointed out by Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Haji Awang Tengah Ali Hassan who is also Minister of Industrial and Entrepreneurial Development, and Second Minister of Urban Development and Natural Resources, when he officiated at Limbang Festival 2017 here yesterday. “If in Abu Dhabi, there is a sailing boat race and catamaran race, I am sure such races can be held here with the strong support of everyone.

“Compared with Abu Dhabi or Bahrain, the conditions here are more favourable,” he said.

Awang Tengah who was representing Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Abang Haji Openg also pointed out that the government will continue to improve the agriculture and livestock sectors with cooperation from Brunei, Sabah and Sarawak in Limbang Division.

Among those present were Assistant Minister for the Modernisation of Agriculture, Dr Haji Abdul Rahman Ismail, Batu Danau Assemblyman, Paulus Palu Gumbang, Limbang MP, Haji Hasbi Habibollah, chairman of Kuching Port Authority, Datuk Awang Bemee Ali Bassah, Limbang Resident, Datu Maria Hasman and local dignitaries.

Touching of the festival, Awang Tengah said it was similar to the other festivals such as Buffalo Race, Babulang Festival, Lun Bawang Festival and others which are all aimed at promoting Limbang.

“Limbang is the main gateway to the northern region of Sarawak. Hence, we have to show to visitors that although we are of various races we are able to live in peace and harmony,” he said.

Awang Tengah also urged the people to protect the natural environment such as the Limbang River, which must always be kept clean and not treated as a waste dumping ground which would eventually destroy the river.

Earlier in his speech chairman of the Limbang Festival who is also the Resident, Datu Maria Hasman said water sports such as boats and speed boats races, culture, arts and foods at Limbang Kitchen are the main attractions at the Limbang Festival.

The boat races involving 15 events are going on today.
