Man, 70, among two caught for theft

MIRI: A senior citizen was amongst two local men detained by police here for theft on Thursday (Sept 17).

They were detained by the Miri Criminal Investigation department task force team for allegedly involved in stealing a total of 35 containers of pesticide from a shop selling agriculture and farming products in Batu Niah.

Each container contained 20 litres of pesticide.

The man, aged 70, was detained by police around 1.30pm at a house located at Mile 22 Jalan Bintulu -Miri after being led by his 25 year-old accomplice.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the duo had been involved in two thefts targeting the same shop since August 31 this year.

Estimated value of the stolen items was around RM4,550.

According to sources, each one of the stolen pesticide container was sold at RM100 to a buyer known as ‘Liong’.

The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for house breaking.
