KOTA SAMARAHAN: Fo u r champions in the State Level NILAM Award 2017, namely, Sim Li Yan, Gwen Angel Unoi Gul in, Chr i s Al v in Te renc e and Walter Jeremiah Law Shuo Wang will represent Sarawak in the National Level NILAM Award in April, 2018. The State Level “Nadi Ilmu Amalan Membaca” (NILAM) Award 2017 saw Sim Li Yan from SK St Joseph, Miri emerging as the champion in the Primary School (Bahasa Melayu) category while Gwen Angel Unoi Gulin from SJK (C) Chung San, Miri was the champion in the Primary School (English) category.
Both received a trophy and a certificate each. Meanwhile, for the Secondary School (Bahasa Melayu) category, the champion was Chris Alvin Terence from SMK St Luke, Sr i Aman whi le the Secondar y School (Engl i sh) category was won by Walter Jeremiah Law Shuo Wang from SMK Batu Lintang, Kuching. Both also received a trophy and a certificate each.
Kota Samarahan Member of Parliament, Rubiah Wang said that the s e champions we r e expected to be role models to other students.
“I am urging the student s to help their schools implement a variety of creative and innovative activities to attract their friends, especially those who do not read much,” she s a i d i n h e r s p e e c h wh i c h was read by Kota Samarahan Di v i s i on Re s ident , Brahi m Lumpu during the State Level NILAM Awa rd 2 0 1 7 he ld at Kota Samarahan Civic Centre here yesterday. State Education Technology Di v i s i o n C h i e f A s s i s t a n t Di r e c t o r , S h i r i n i Ma t u r a Mohamed Zulki f l i said that the champions were selected by the Technology Division of the State Educat ion f rom Oc tobe r 2 unt i l Oc tobe r 5 , 2017. “A total of 44 students from primary schools and secondar y s chool s in 11 Di v i s ions were involved in thi s year ’s NILAM camp,” she said.
