MIRI: Heavy downpour in Beluru, Bakong since Tuesday has caused a culvert along the Bukit Peninjau road to collapse, creating a massive hole in the road.

Telang Usan District officer (D. O) Baru Tai, when contacted by New Sarawak Tribune on Wednesday, said that he has requested the Miri Public Works Department (PWD) to do repair works as soon as possible.

“Yesterday (Tuesday), there was heavy rain in the area, and the huge volume of water that flowed under the road had caused the culvert to partially collapse,” he said.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.

Following the incident, the Peninjau road has been temporarily closed until repair works are completed.

“The traffic has been diverted to the main road,” disclosed Baru.

Bukit Peninjau road has been used as a shortcut route for motorists commuting between Miri to Beluru and Long Lama.
