SARIKEI: A primary school here still resumes its daily session despite being inundated by flood waters early this morning (Nov 1).
Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Adin in Sare was one of three districts inundated by flood waters caused by high tide and heavy rain since Monday afternoon, along with Bayong and Kampung Seberang.
Although no injuries were reported and the flood lasted only two hours, the situation caused concern among the school’s 104 students, teachers, and staff because flood rarely happens in the school.
It is also understood that the school’s daily session was not affected and continued as usual.
Sarikei fire station chief Narudin Mahmudin said the flood only lasted a few hours before it completely subsided at around 7am.
His men were despatched to the scene, and upon arriving, they found that the water levels had gradually receded.
The water levels were reported to have risen by up to one metre around 4am, thus causing several areas, including the dining hall and preschool classroom, to be flooded.
In the event of heavy rain or a rise in water levels, the public is reminded to be careful or alert and immediately inform the fire department for further action.
