Trio nabbed for alleged drug distribution

MIRI: Narcotic police here arrested three men, including two foreigners, for alleged involvement in drug distribution activities on yesterday (Nov 11).

Miri OCPD ACP Alexson Naga Chabu in a statement, confirmed that the arrests happened around 5.30pm in front of a market at Lutong.

The team managed to detain a 37-year-old local and two foreigners, aged 36 and 52, on suspicion of engaging in drug distribution activities.

“During inspections, one of the suspects threw a pouch to the ground and it was picked up for examinations.

“The team managed to find a plastic packet containing crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine in the pouch.

“All three suspects and the seized drugs weighing 78.65g, were taken to the police station for further action,” he said.

Alexson stated that the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or a life imprisonment and whipping up to 15 times, upon conviction.

Should the public have information regarding drug abuse activities, they can report it to the nearest police station to ensure that such crimes are curbed.
