SIBU: The Road Transport Department (RTD) recently issued warnings to 11 heavy vehicles for illegal parking in Sibujaya.

A spokesman from the Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) said the issuance of the notice was carried out in an integrated operation to deal with the problem of heavy vehicles parking illegally in residential areas and roadsides in Sibujaya.

The agencies involved in the operation were the police, RTD, the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (LPKP), and SRDC.

“Fines will be imposed if the owners are caught for the second time in the next operation. There will be no further compromise on those who have received the notice.

“The council reminds residents who work as drivers of these heavy vehicles or those who stop by not to park their vehicles on the road shoulder as it is an offence to do so,” he said.

He said the council had received numerous complaints from residents regarding the matter.

“Apart from being an offence, the act of parking a vehicle illegally can also invite danger to other road users. It can cause visibility to be obstructed and accidents which can occur if this matter is not curbed early,” he said.
