SIBU: A man died on the spot while another was seriously injured after the van they were in skidded and crashed into a tree along Jalan Salim-Stabau yesterday (May 9).

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department said the deceased was identified as 53-year-old Fung Tuck Fook, the passenger.

Firemen from Sibujaya station were promptly deployed to the scene following an emergency call around 3.30 pm.

On arrival, the team wasted no time to extricate victim who was trapped in the front seat.

The trapped victim who was freed from the wrecked van but he was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Paramedics confirmed that FUng died at the scene and his body was handed over to the police to be transported to the hospital mortuary.

The driver, who sustained severe injuries, was rescued by the public and rushed to Sibu Hospital for treatment.

His identity and the extent of his injuries are not known.
