SIBU: The consideration of including the street parade as a recurring event in the state’s calendar is yet to be discussed, said Datuk Sebastian Ting.
However, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts said that a review and brainstorming session would take place after the conclusion of Sarawak’s 60th Independence Anniversary celebration.
“At the moment, this has not been discussed.
“I think there will be a review and brainstorming session after the whole year celebration, and from there, we will see what will be the best for us to move forward,” he told reporters after the Sibu Street Parade’s full rehearsal at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang here last night (August 11).

Ting said this in response to whether the Ministry for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts has plans to consider making the street parade one of the state’s calendar events.
Meanwhile, commenting on the Sibu Street Parade rehearsal, Ting said that the strong spirit displayed by all 60 participating contingents is commendable.
“There was drizzling, but the spirit was wonderful. Thank you so much to all the contingents. We pray for good weather tomorrow,” he said.
Ting also urged the Sibu community to show their support by attending the parade, which was held in conjunction with Sarawak’s 60th Independence Anniversary celebration.
Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who is representing the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, is scheduled to officiate at the main event today (August 12).
The 2km street parade will start from Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase 2 and end at the Chuang Corridor of Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase 1.
Carrying the theme ‘Sarawak Maju Makmur’, the event is jointly organised by Sibu Municipal Council and Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC).
Also present was the SMC deputy chairman and organising chairman Mohammed Abdullah Izkandar Roseley.
