KUCHING: Deputy Minister of Communications Teo Nie Ching arrived here for a one-day working visit.

Teo is scheduled to visit the Point of Presence (PoP) areas at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Santubong in the afternoon today.

The PoP is the provision of a fibre-optic hub, which is one of the alternatives to ensure that the broadband infrastructure network and coverage can be better extended to areas near schools, and in rural and interior areas nationwide.

The project was part of the National Digital Network (Jendela) initiative to ensure wider internet coverage nationwide, especially in rural areas.

For phase one of the project, it would involve 630 locations and phase two would comprise 3,693 locations near schools in rural areas nationwide.

Later in the evening, she will attend a dinner with the media at a leading hotel before departing for Kuala Lumpur tonight.

Meanwhile, present to welcome Teo’s arrival at the Kuching International Airport (KIA) were Sarawak Information deputy director Aziz Abdul Rahman, and heads of departments and agencies under her ministry.
