Deputy minister praises Sarawak media for vital role in information dissemination

MIRI: Media practitioners in Sarawak play a crucial role in facilitating the flow of accurate information from the state government to the people, Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting has stressed.

He said media outlets such as Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS), TV Sarawak (TVS), and various media partners in Sarawak have demonstrated remarkable responsibility in disseminating factual and authentic information regarding government policies, initiatives, and developmental achievements.

“The partnership and role played by journalists, media partners and the UKAS has led to successful delivery of all kinds of information to the people of Sarawak.

“The media has always presented accurate facts, give positive feedback and this is very important in presenting the beautiful face of the Sarawak media.”

Ting said this during a luncheon organised by UKAS in conjunction with Chinese New Year with media partners at a hotel here today (Feb 15).

Additionally, Ting, who is also the Piasau assemblyman, lauded the media’s pivotal role during the Covid-19 crisis, conveying vital updates and guidelines from the government to the public as well as working at the front lines of the crisis.

Earlier, he also joined UKAS in delivering Chinese New Year donations to patients at Permyjaya Miri Red Crescent Dialysis Centre.

Also in attendance were UKAS special administrative officer Datu Takun@Takon Sunggah, chief assistant director Anwar Hanafi Ardimansyah and Dr Charlie Dudang, Federation of Sarawak Journalists Associations (FSJA) president Andy Jong Wan Joon, and Northern Sarawak Journalists Association (NSJA) president Chai Chon Chin.
