MERADONG: A local man detained over an alleged assault and criminal intimidation case in Bintangor has tested positive for two types of drugs.
Meradong police chief DSP Tansli Mering said the 30-year-old suspect was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) at Taman Bintang at around 12.50pm on Sunday (Aug 16).
He was taken into custody in connection with a report lodged over an alleged assault and criminal intimidation incident in the area.
“A urine screening conducted following his arrest came back positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
“Background checks found the suspect had no prior criminal or drug-related record,” he said.
Tansli said the case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to two years, upon conviction.
Meanwhile, investigations into the alleged assault and criminal intimidation are still ongoing.
Tansli said police would continue to take firm action against drug-related offences and urged the public to provide information on drug activities to Bintangor police station at 084-693222.
