KUCHING: Some 18,000 residents in the Bintawa area near here will benefit from the new Kampung Bintawa Mother and Child Health Clinic (MCHC) in front of SK Matu Baru when it is completed in six months’ time.

The project, built under the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) of the state government with funds channelled through the MP, is expected to be ready in six months’ time after the launching ceremony yesterday.

The earth-breaking ceremony for the new clinic costing RM500,000 was officiated at by Santubong MP Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and Public Utilities (Electric Supply) Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Rahman Junaidi.

“It is vital to have this clinic as it will serve the large population in this area.

“We promise to build a new school and clinic at the same time, but now we only have the school while the clinic is still not built yet.

“Although the federal government has withdrawn the allocation for the construction of this clinic, the generous state government led by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg was willing to allocate funds for us to build this new clinic,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dr Rahman said that efforts made by Junaidi to get the allocation from the state government after the federal government withdrew the fund were very much appreciated.

“This is for the benefit of our people and our state government is truly concerned and cares for the people’s welfare and needs.

“The support and cooperation from people of all walks of life are needed to ensure that this project is successful,” he said.
