BELAGA: The body of a 36-year-old man, who went missing after a longboat capsized at Long Menjawah, Batang Rajang, was found afloat in the river on Tuesday (June 18).

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that the body of Balavishnu Permaloo was discovered by members of the public around 1.15pm.

Rescuers were then deployed to retrieve the body about 50m from where the boat capsized on Sunday (June 16).

The body was later handed over to the police to be taken to the hospital for post-mortem procedures.

Now, the search and rescue (SAR) operation is focusing on locating the other missing man, identified as 30-year-old Rhuban Apparoo.

Both victims, from Sungai Karangan, Padang Serai, Kedah, went missing on Sunday after the boat they were travelling in, capsized due to strong currents in Jeram Menjawah.

The two were among five people in the boat when the incident occurred at around 4pm and three people, including the skipper, survived.
