SIBU: Firefighters managed to prevent a major fire outbreak after a room in a terrace house at Jalan Pipit here caught fire yesterday (June 24).
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the 11.04 am incident as the tenants managed to rush out to safety.
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that firefighters from Sungai Merah station were dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call.
On arrival, the team confirmed that the fire occurred in a room on the ground floor and they proceed to put out the fire using water from a nearby fire hydrant.
The blaze, which caused five per cent damages to the room, was brought under control at 11.32 am. Overhaul works were subsequently performed to ensure no risk of reignition.
Once the situation was deemed safe, the team ended the operation at 12.49 am. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
