MUKAH: Sarawak will establish three astronomy centres in Miri, Bintulu and Kuching.

“This initiative is specifically designed to inspire young Sarawakians to explore the wonders of the universe,” said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in a speech read by Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah during the Sarawak Youth Day Celebration at Kingwood Resort today (Dec 7).

Abang Johari also revealed that RM30 million has been allocated for student financial assistance, including one-time RM1,200 allowances for low-income students.

Additionally, the government will contribute RM90 million towards PTPTN loan repayments.

“These initiatives, along with ongoing book vouchers and free laptop programs, highlight the importance of our youth and their potential to shape Sarawak’s future,” he added.

Abang Johari urged Sarawak’s youth to embrace innovation and entrepreneurship.

“The world is evolving rapidly, and we need creative thinkers and skilled individuals to seize emerging opportunities. I believe Sarawak’s youth have the potential to become global leaders in technology and innovation,” he said.

The Premier assured Sarawakians of the government’s continued support in their pursuit of dreams and ambitions.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Youth Day achieved a milestone by setting a Malaysian Book of Records record for creating a mural using 35,112 bottle caps.

This collaborative effort involved the PTPTN loan repayments (AADK), Smart Bootcamp and Youth Club.

The Sarawak Youth Award was presented to Mattasan Rohani and Debbie Gibson Medan in the individual categories.

The Miri Youth Association and Junior Chamber International Sibu Association were recognised as the champion and runner-up in the organisation category.
