KUCHING: The Sarawak General Operations Force (GOF) seized contraband worth RM6.3 million in two separate operations in Sibu and Miri between Jan 1 and 3.

Sarawak GOF Commander SAC Dr Che Ghazali Che Awang said, Operations codenamed Op Taring Bravo 3 and Op Taring Charlie also led to the arrest of four local men and the confiscation of two vehicles.

In Miri, a raid on a premises storing frozen food at 10 am on Jan 1 resulted in the arrest of a 55-year-old man.

“Officers found 81,294 kilogrammes of frozen food, valued at RM3.2 million based on market prices,” he said in a statement today (Jan 3).

The case has been handed over to the Sarawak Department of Veterinary Services for further investigation under the Veterinary Public Health Ordinance 1999.

Separately, on Jan 2 at 1.30 pm, a team from Battalion 10 raided a premises in Sibu suspected of storing fireworks and firecrackers.

“Officers arrested three local men aged between 26 and 39 and found 730 boxes of fireworks and firecrackers, estimated to be worth RM3.1 million,” he said.

This case has been referred to the Criminal Investigation Department in Sibu for further action under the Explosives Act 1957.
