SIBU: A former unit trust employee was charged in the Magistrate’s Court today (Jan 10) with misappropriating RM263,296.12 of her customers’ funds.
The accused, Alina Tommy, 32, did not enter a plea when the charge was read before Magistrate Romario Jonoi.
She was granted bail of RM10,000 with two sureties, and the case will be mentioned again in the Sessions Court on January 23, where she is expected to enter a plea.
Alina is accused of misusing customers’ funds at a unit trust company in Sibu between 2020 and March 2024.
If found guilty, she faces a prison sentence of one to 14 years, whipping, and a fine under Section 408 of the Penal Code.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Amirul Hakim Mohamad Zamri is handling the case, while lawyer Yap Hoi Liong is representing the accused.
