SERIAN: As of Friday, 19 temporary relief centres (PPS) have been opened here to place the flood victims in the affected area.
The PPS SK Tanah Merah recorded the most victims being placed, with 251 victims, while PPS Serian community Hall recorded 218 victims, with more expected to be placed there.
Deputy Premier and Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas stated that Sarawak has opened 58 PPS, with the trend of relocation for the flood victims expected to increase from time to time.
“We have also visited several of the PPS, and we are satisfied with the efforts to placing all the flood victims so far.
“And they have managed to place them as soon as possible, as well as other PPS.
“I would like to congratulate and thank everyone involved in making this effort as smooth as possible, and I also like to thank our assemblymen in assisting the flood victims as well,” he said.
He said this at a press conference after visiting the PPS Serian Community Hall here.
Additionally, Uggah also advised the Social Welfare Department (SWD) to supply food aid to villages that were not affected by the flood but were cut off due to road closures.
“When the roads are cut off, they are unable to buy food supplies, so we have directed the SWD and Serian Resident to ensure that food supplies are delivered to them.
“These are among the various measures taken by government agencies together with SDMC, and we are doing our best to ease the burden faced by those affected by the flood,” he added.
Also present during the press conference were Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata, Segedup assemblyman Datuk Martin Ben, Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada and other distinguished guests
