TATAU: A 69-year-old man has gone missing after his boat capsized in Sungai Anap while he and his wife were returning home from dropping off their son, a military personnel, in Sangan here on Wednesday (Feb 5).
The victim, identified as Lila Jali from Antau Sait longhouse, was travelling with his wife when their boat overturned about 10km from Tatau jetty at approximately 5.17 pm.
Nearby villagers managed to rescue his wife, but Lila remains unaccounted for.
Just minutes earlier, at 5.15 pm, the couple had dropped off their son in Sangan for his return to duty after his leave.
The longhouse chief later contacted the son to inform him of the accident.
Upon receiving the news, the son and his brother immediately returned to Tatau and lodged a police report.
A search and rescue operation was launched early this morning, involving the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Tatau, the Armed Forces, police, and the Civil Defence Force (APM).
As of 4.52 pm today (Feb 6), Lila has yet to be found.
