KUCHING: A total of six evacuation centres (PPS), housing 347 victims across Sarawak, are in operation following floods and landslides as of 8 am today (March 21).
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement today said four PPS were activated for floods.
They are Balai Raya Song (198 victims), Asrama Belia Kapit (31 victims), Dewan Kompleks Sukan Kanowit (38 victims), and Dewan Komuniti Sibu Jaya (seven victims).
Meanwhile, another two PPS, Dewan Masyarakat Kampung Bahagia Jaya Teku, Sibu, and Dewan Kampung Sukan, Miri are sheltering 43 and 40 victims, respectively, following landslides.
Yesterday (Mar 20), the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) announced that the Inter-Monsoon Phase is expected to begin on Mar 25 and will continue through May, with Sarawak among the areas likely to experience heavy rain and thunderstorms.
According to the notice issued, this phase marks the official end of the Northeast Monsoon 2024/2025, which began on Nov 5, 2024.
