SIBU: In the spirit of Hari Raya, Bukit Assek assemblyman, Joseph Chieng Jin Ek yesterday launched the ‘Sumbangan ikhlas Aidilfitri for Hari Raya’ initiative under the ‘I Love Bukit Assek’ series.

He distributed RM30 Farley Salim supermarket cash vouchers in Raya packets to Muslim voters in his constituency, demonstrating his commitment to supporting families in need during the festive season.

“The first day of the distribution saw an overwhelming response, with many coming forward to receive the Raya packets,” he said during the launching at the National Information Department Distribution Centre (Nadi) Salim here today (Mar 22).

Chieng revealed that this was the first time he was celebrating Hari Raya with Bukit Assek’s Muslim voters in such a manner, making it a truly meaningful occasion.

He hoped that this initiative would help alleviate some of the financial burdens on families and allow them to celebrate Hari Raya with peace of mind.

“Hari Raya is a time of gratitude and sharing. I hope this small gesture can bring some relief to families in need and let them feel the warmth and care of society,” said Chieng.
According to him, the distribution will continue today at the same venue, from 9 am to 1 pm, and Mar 24 to 28, at N.51 Bukit Assek Service Centre, from 9 am to 1 pm.

He said that only Muslim voters from the N.51 Bukit Assek constituency were eligible to receive the packets.

He explained that recipients must bring their identity cards and be present in person to collect the Raya packets.

For those with mobility issues, family members may bring the recipients’ identity cards for registration, and the N.51 Bukit Assek Service Centre will arrange home delivery later.

Many recipients expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Chieng for his generosity, highlighting that this initiative was not just financial assistance but also a strong show of care and support.

They praised him as a compassionate and people-oriented ‘wakil rakyat’.

Chieng encouraged all eligible Muslim N.51 Bukit Assek voters to claim their vouchers as soon as possible
