KUCHING: The city of Kuching is set to undergo a major transformation in terms of infrastructure and environment, said Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) Mayor Datuk Hilmy Othman.

According to Hilmy, several key infrastructure projects are currently underway which include the Bintangor Bridge, expected to be completed in April; the Autonomous Rail Transit (ART) under the Greater Kuching Public Transport Master Plan; the Sejingkat to Tanjong Bako Bridge; the construction of Jalan Pesisir Pantai connecting Bako and Buntal; development plans in Santubong spearheaded by the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC); and the Kuching Waterfront development stretching from the Bintangor Bridge to Satok Bridge.

“God willing, it will become the longest waterfront in the country.

“With the implementation of these projects, we are not only beautifying Kuching but also improving residents’ quality of life and attracting more tourists to our state,” he said during DBKU’s Hari Raya gathering held at its compound on Monday (Apr 21).

Hilmy also outlined several major programmes DBKU will roll out, including a Street Parade themed Parade of Lights, a Music Festival, the Kuching Lights and Floral Festival, and the Kuching International Cat Festival.

In addition, he called for swift approval of DBKU’s Organisational Restructuring Proposal.

“This will enable DBKU to act quickly in meeting the requirements needed to realise the next phase of our transformation efforts,” he added.
