SIBU: A local man today claimed trial in the Magistrates’ Court here to a charge of fabricating false evidence.

When the nature of charge was read and explained to Ngang Hock Kung through an interpreter, he said he understood it as well as the consequences of pleading not guilty.

Magistrate Oon Kork Chern allowed the accused to be released on a RM2,000 bail with two sureties and fixed the pre-trial case management on June 26.

According to the charge sheet, on February 7, 2025, at about 4:35 pm at the Sibu Sessions Court, Ngang had submitted documents containing false statements intended to be used as evidence in a judicial proceeding.

The documents were an affidavit in opposition dated July 10, 2024, a survey plan, and service termination dated October 24, 2023.

The charge further stated that filing the documents through an online filing system (E-Kehakiman Sabah & Sarawak) for the said judicial proceeding might cause any person to form an opinion and use such documents as evidence.

Ngang had, thereby, fabricated false evidence which was an offence under Section 192 of the Penal Code punishable under Section 193 of the same Code.

Upon conviction, he could face up to seven years’ imprisonment and was liable to a fine as well.
