Drug free drive strengthens community ties

BELAGA: The Sarawak National Security Council (NSC) conducted a Drug Free Community Safety Strengthening Programme at Lebu Kulit, Sungai Asap to foster cooperation between government agencies and local community to combat drug abuse.

The initiative was held on Saturday with the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) Sibu and the Lebu Kulit Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK), which involved a variety of engaging activities such as communal work, aerobics, and site visits around Lebu Kulit area.

Sarawak NSC Chief Assistant Director Wazi Seman said the programme is part of an ongoing commitment to build a safer and drug-free environment through proactive engagement.

“This cooperation between government agencies and the local community in combating drug abuse will continue to be strengthened to ensure national safety and security are upheld,” he said.

A key highlight of the programme was the official inauguration of Lebu Kulit Gateway, officiated by Wazi, Head of AADK Sibu Azimah Marshid, Penghulu Robert Anyie, and Paren Lebu Bujang Bit.

The evening segment of the event featured vibrant cultural performances, including the Pebeke Tawai (Unity Dance), Ngajat Solo (male and female), and the Datun Julut dance, performed by members of the Lebu Kulit JKKK. The celebration continued with musical performances by Band Djaksa and talented local singers.

The programme not only promoted anti-drug awareness but also highlighted the importance of cultural heritage and community solidarity in building a resilient and united society.
