KUCHING: The Sarawak International Volleyball Invitational (SIVI) 2025 has ended on a high note, with organisers and fans still buzzing from what many consider one of the most thrilling volleyball finals ever seen on Malaysian soil.
The title clash between Mongolia’s Hobby Ace Volleyball Club and Thailand’s Thanyaburi team delivered a gripping display of skill, strategy, and heart.
Both sides, featuring players aged between 17 and 25, impressed coaches and spectators alike with their discipline and maturity.
“What’s especially inspiring is how young these players are, yet they carry themselves with the composure of seasoned professionals. It is a true testament to their volleyball culture,” said coach Stephanie Law when contacted today (Aug 3).
Thailand, known for its strong volleyball pedigree, lived up to expectations. Thanyaburi’s players showcased a remarkable balance of fierceness and composure, bringing both joy and seriousness to their performance.
For Hobby Ace VC, it was a tournament debut to remember. As the first Mongolian team ever invited to SIVI, they made history and a statement.
After falling behind 0–2 in sets, they mounted an extraordinary comeback to claim the title, 3-2 showing mental grit and high-level execution under pressure.
“I had a chance to speak with their team liaison officer. They have had exposure to other tournaments in Malaysia, but they said they were satisfied with the competition and the final was one of the most intense matches they’ve ever played.
“That kind of feedback makes all our efforts worthwhile,”said Law, who is also the head of organising committee SIVI 2025.
Beyond the court, the crowd played a major role in elevating the final’s atmosphere. The cheers, energy, and engagement from the stands created a vibrant, almost festival-like environment, a sign of the growing local passion for international-level volleyball.
“For me, it was incredible to see how alive the whole venue felt. The crowd was really into it, and you could feel the pride and excitement in the air.
“I just cannot wait for the next SIVI to come back — it’s only going to grow from here,” Law added.
For the record the tournament began on Jul 29 until Aug 3.
