SIBU: The Dual Language Programme (DLP) test for Sekolah Kebangsaan in Sarawak will take place on Oct 15 and 16, covering Mathematics, Science and English.

Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Dr. Annuar Rapaee said the assessment is aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of the DLP implementation, not ranking schools.

“We only want to know the achievement level of students and the performance of schools.

“There will be no announcement of the best or second-best school. The report will only state the number of excellent students and those below average so that we can assist weaker schools,” he said when speaking at the Minor Rural Project (MRP) grant presentation ceremony to schools in the Nangka constituency at SMK Agama Sibu on Sunday (Aug 10).

He said the test’s scoring format will follow the Cambridge Certificate of Education (IGCSE) system instead of the traditional grading method based on A, B or C.

While questions will be prepared locally, Dr Annuar added that they will be reviewed and approved by Cambridge University Press and Assessment (CUPA) to ensure suitability and compliance with international standards.

Dr Annuar stressed that examination integrity will be given top priority with question papers printed outside Sarawak and classified as confidential, with three sets of questions prepared.

“Marking will be carried out by external examiners at undisclosed centres in three zones — central (Universiti Teknologi Sarawak), northern and southern.

“Examiners are not allowed to take scripts out of the marking room. All processes are conducted professionally to ensure transparency and to strengthen parents’ confidence in the examination’s integrity,” he said.

Dr Annuar said the test will only involve SK schools implementing the DLP, while Chinese National-type Schools (SJKC) will not take part as they do not run the programme.

The results will serve as the basis for entry into certain programmes under Yayasan Sarawak, replacing the previous method that required applications and headmaster recommendations,” he said.

In another development, Dr. Annuar said the Yayasan Sarawak International School will move into its new building by the end of September, involving 98 Year 7 students.
