KUCHING: Petrol station dealers along the Kuching Urban Transport System (KUTS) project route in Kuching and Samarahan have raised concerns over ongoing disruptions caused by construction works carried out directly in front of their entry and exit points.
Sarawak Petroleum Product Agents Association (SPPAA) chairman Laura Hartini Maurice said the lack of advance notice from the project contractor has prevented station management from implementing essential safety measures such as traffic control, arranging alternative access, and rescheduling fuel deliveries.
“Without these precautions, customers face unnecessary inconvenience when attempting to access stations for refuelling.
“In some cases, stations have been forced to close for several hours, resulting in significant business losses and service interruptions,” she said in a recent statement.
She added that the association has requested a meeting with Sarawak Metro to establish a proper coordination plan that prioritises safety, minimises public inconvenience, and reduces operational disruptions.
“This discussion should also identify the most suitable times for such works to be carried out, preferably outside peak hours, to avoid traffic congestion,” she said.
Laura stressed that petrol station dealers remain committed to ensuring the safety of the public, staff, and all road users, and urged better communication and cooperation moving forward.
