KUCHING: The permanent campus of the Sarawak Technical Excellence Centre (CENTEXS) in Dalat is 98 per cent complete and is expected to begin operations next month.
Dalat Assemblywoman, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, said the official opening of the facility will be officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in October.
She said CENTEXS Dalat’s students, who are currently based at CENTEXS Mukah, will relocate to the new campus once operations commence.
“The campus is equipped with various facilities, including male and female hostels, a language centre, digital classrooms, electrical rooms, a fashion room, a welding block, as well as a special fibreglass boat-building course not offered at other centres,” she told reporters after paying a courtesy call on the Premier at the Kompleks Satria Pertiwi here today.
On another matter, Fatimah, who is also Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister, revealed that the 25th edition of the biennial Besaug Festival will be launched by the Premier on the same day.
The festival will feature ‘bida’ boat races, cultural performances at night, and trading activities, which are among the main attractions for the local community.
During the meeting, she also sought the Premier’s advice on the proposed Dalat Boutique Hotel project.
The proposal was approved, with construction to be funded by the Sarawak Government and operations to be managed by the private sector.
Also present were Mukah Division Resident Datuk Kueh Lei Poh, Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) General Manager Kusyairi Bostani, and Dalat District Officer Matthew Hubert.
