KUCHING: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) sent five students to represent the university at ASEAN Week 2025, hosted by FPT University in Da Nang, Vietnam, from August 18 to 21.
According to a press statement by UNIMAS, the programme, fully sponsored by FPT University, brought together students from ASEAN member countries to celebrate diversity, exchange knowledge, and foster regional collaboration.
During the four-day event, participants took part in activities including the ‘ASEAN Culture Lab: Shared Stories’, where students presented narratives from their cultures, a ‘Language and Cultures Workshop’ to deepen cross-cultural understanding, and ‘ASEAN Night’, a cultural showcase and talent exchange highlighting the region’s heritage.
The selected UNIMAS students were Ahmad Nur Irfan Amirruddin (Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities), A’lia Affiqah Mohd Shahza Anuar (Faculty of Economics and Business), Conrad Barneslee Libio (Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities), Nur Zulaika Zalia Ahmad Talahah (Faculty of Resource Science and Technology), and Siti Aisyah Safiah Hassan (Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology).
UNIMAS Global Director, Thian Foong Fatt, said the programme provided students with an opportunity to enhance cross-cultural competencies while gaining exposure that complemented their academic growth.
The university added that the initiative reflected UNIMAS’ commitment to supporting the ASEAN agenda by strengthening people-to-people connectivity and promoting mutual understanding among youths, while also highlighting its role in advancing Malaysia’s leadership in fostering regional unity and collaboration during the nation’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025.
Through the programme, UNIMAS reaffirmed its role as a proactive contributor to ASEAN educational cooperation and provided students with transformative experiences beyond the classroom, expressing confidence that its five representatives would return as proud ambassadors equipped with insights and skills to share with their peers.
