SIBU: A 38-year-old man was further remanded by the Magistrates’ Court here today after being indicted on a murder charge.

When the charge was read and explained to Franklin Kesulai through an interpreter, he confirmed that he understood but no plea was taken from him.

Magistrate Oon Kork Chern fixed October 3 for further mention of the case.

According to the charge sheet, Franklin was accused of committing murder by causing the death of one Mr X at Sibu Gateway, Chambers Road, here on August 7 at about 9:30 pm.

The offence is framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which upon conviction carries the death sentence or imprisonment of not less than 30 years and not more than 40 years.

If not sentenced to death, the offender shall also be punished with no fewer than 12 strokes of the cane.

Deputy Public Prosecutor, Haris Danial, appeared for the prosecution while Franklin was unrepresented by legal counsel.
