BETONG: Two female passengers were killed while their male driver sustained serious injuries after their sports utility vehicle (SUV) skidded and crashed along Jalan Pan Borneo Betong-Sarikei yesterday (Sept 2).
All of them were found trapped in their seats in the 5.58 pm accident near Kampung Melayu Ulu Betong.
Their identities were not known as no identification documents were discovered at the scene.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Betong station were dispatched to the scene following an emergency call.
Upon arrival, they found the passengers unconscious in their seats while the driver was still conscious.
Extrication works were conducted using rescue tools and the victims were freed from the wreckage at 7.15 pm.
Paramedics confirmed that the women died at the scene, and their bodies were taken to Betong Hospital for post mortem examinations.
Meanwhile, the injured driver was rushed to hospital for immediate treatment.
The extent of his injuries was not immediately known.
The team ended the operation at 7.35 pm.
