BINTULU: Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) graduates have been urged to remain relevant, resilient and competitive in the face of an ever-evolving global job market by applying the knowledge and experiences gained throughout their studies.

UPM’s Vice-Chancellor, Datuk Prof. Dr Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah, said that true success for graduates goes beyond academic excellence.

He emphasised the importance of character building, personal growth and community service in shaping holistic individuals during the first session of UPM’s 49th Convocation Ceremony at Dewan Sri Kenyalang on Sunday.

“A graduate’s success should not be measured solely by academic results but by their ability to contribute positively to their family, community and nation, in line with UPM’s motto ‘Berilmu Berbakti’ (With Knowledge, We Serve),” he said.

Ahmad reminded graduates to face post-university life with perseverance and integrity, adding that their university experience serves as a foundation for building strong identity and purpose.

“UPM is committed to producing graduates who are knowledgeable, ethical and visionary, equipped with leadership qualities that will allow them to thrive in an increasingly competitive world,” he added.

The ceremony marked a historic milestone as the first to be held since the campus’ rebranding on June 30 this year.

A total of 556 graduates received their degrees and diplomas during the event, including the inaugural batch from two new academic programmes; Bachelor of Science in Industrial Chemistry (Honours) and Diploma in Business Management.

Ahmad noted that the event also reflects UPM’s ongoing efforts to expand its academic offerings and strengthen its role as a leading higher education institution in East Malaysia.
