MIRI: Humanitarian support is making its way directly to communities in need as the Malaysia Red Crescent (MRC) Miri District brought food aid, health support and community care to two families in Sungai Seruas, Bakong.

The initiative, held on Saturday (Sept 12), was part of a charity visit and community service programme organised by the MRC Miri Branch’s Community Care and Protection Sub-Committee.

Rather than limiting assistance to the distribution of essential supplies, the programme combined immediate relief with health support, allowing volunteers and medical personnel to engage directly with the families and better understand their needs.

The families received essential food baskets, while doctors and medical officers conducted health consultations, reviewed their medical records and provided advice on their existing health concerns.

The approach reflects MRC Miri’s wider humanitarian role in ensuring that assistance reaches people at community level, particularly those who may require additional support.

The programme also brought together MRC staff and volunteers, representatives from Majlis Bandaraya Miri (MBM/MCC), PKB Miri and Klinik Kesihatan Bandaraya Miri, highlighting the importance of collaboration in delivering meaningful community support.

For the volunteers, the visit was also an opportunity to listen to the families’ concerns and strengthen their connection with the community.

MRC Miri said the humanitarian service was ultimately about compassion, presence and responding to the needs of people, while continuing to promote volunteerism, dignity and solidarity.

The organisation said it remained committed to taking humanitarian values directly into communities and working with partners to make care more accessible to those who need it.
