MIRI: SMK Chung Hua Miri delivered one of its strongest-ever performances on the international stage, securing two gold medals and one silver at the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) International Final in Singapore.

The results helped propel Malaysia to the top of the overall standings, where the country finished as champions with four golds, four silvers and two Excellent Awards.

Chung Hua’s dominance was most visible in the Robomission categories.

The Junior team of Dexter Yong Shawn, Keith Lee Yee Hern and Chloe Kiu Wei Han stormed to gold under the guidance of mentor Justine Jimbai.

The Senior team matched their success, with Foong Kai Jie, Lim Ming Hao and Chin Wei Hung claiming another gold, coached by Denny James Senawin.

Both teams delivered precise engineering, consistent performance and the ability to adapt under pressure.

The school’s third medal came from the Future Innovators Senior category, where Elson Kieu Chee Yang, Fung Ashley and Tan Yi Xuan earned silver for a project recognised for innovation and social impact.

Mentored by Chien Chee Lin, the team’s work impressed the judges and secured a rare honour: selection by Aramco for an exclusive innovation experience in Seoul, South Korea, in April 2026.

The programme rewards teams that demonstrate the capacity to translate creative ideas into practical solutions.

Chung Hua also fielded a Robosports team represented by Yong Jia Hong, Shawn Ting Jun Hong and Sim Zhi Yang, mentored by Yong Hong Then, gaining valuable exposure at the international level.

The achievements mark a significant milestone for both the school and the nation, with the Future Innovators silver described internally as a historic breakthrough.

The results underscore the rising calibre of Malaysian students in robotics and reinforce Sarawak’s ambition to cultivate a future-ready generation aligned with its digital agenda.

Chung Hua’s performance signals a clear message: Malaysian teams can compete and win at the highest levels of global robotics.
