SARAWAK continues to ramp up efforts to strengthen electricity supply reliability, especially in rural areas, through a series of major infrastructure upgrades across the state.
Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi, said the ongoing improvements are being implemented progressively by Sarawak Energy to enhance system performance.
“These efforts include the construction of distribution lines using Medium Voltage Covered Conductor (MVCC) technology, the building of Double Circuit Monopole overhead lines, the development of new 33/11kV substations, and the upgrading of transformers,” he said during his ministerial winding-up speech at the DUN Sitting here on Monday (Dec 1).

According to him, a total of 273 km of major MVCC distribution line projects have been completed statewide, surpassing the 244 km reported during the previous DUN sitting.
These completed stretches cover areas such as Petian, Dalat, Kanowit, Nanga Ngungun, Julau, Belaga, Tatau, Sangan, Similajau, Sebauh, Bunut and Long Lama.
Julaihi added that the Sarawak government has approved RM150 million to upgrade electricity supply infrastructure in the Samarahan Division.
He said the project, launched on Nov 23, 2025 by the Premier at Dewan Kampung Sampat Sebangan in Sebuyau, will significantly improve supply performance for the distribution lines serving Samarahan, Asajaya, Sebuyau, Simunjan and Gedong.
“Works began immediately after the project launch.”
He said the project will include new MVCC lines linking key areas, a river-crossing cable across Batang Sadong and several upgrades expected to be completed in stages by 2028.
In addition to the Samarahan upgrades, the state government has approved RM425 million under the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMKe-13) to improve electricity supply in Lundu, Lubok Antu, Betong Division, Sungai Asap and Lawas.
Julaihi added that Sarawak Energy has invested RM10.2 billion between 2020 and 2025 in the construction of substations, distribution and transmission lines, as well as system capacity upgrades and improvements.
“These investments reflect our commitment to ensuring a stable, reliable and modern electricity supply system for all Sarawakians.”
