A TOTAL of RM67.5 million from the federal government’s overall RM100 million allocation under the Bitara Madani initiative has been distributed as of November this year to strengthen basic infrastructure and clinical equipment across Sarawak.

Deputy Premier and Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said this is in addition to an extra RM50 million allocation for six dilapidated healthcare facility projects, as well as RM5.2 million for low-value assets and capital items for this year.

“Currently, all these projects are in the pre-implementation stage, and the tender process will be opened once the design works are completed by the Sarawak Public Works Department (PWD).

“The projects involve the Biawak Health Clinic (KK) in Lundu, Tepus KK in Selangau, Kuala Lawas KK in Lawas, Tun Abang Haji Openg KK in Subis, Tanjung Bijat KK in Sri Aman, as well as the Isolation Ward of the Emergency and Trauma Department at the Sarawak General Hospital,” he said.

He said this in ministerial winding-up speech for the Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly today.

For 2025, he said the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MoH) has allocated RM52.8 million for upgrading, renovation and repair works for health clinics in Sarawak.

“Of this amount, RM40 million is under Bitara Madani, RM7.5 million for rural clinic services, RM1.3 million for upgrading quarters, and RM4 million for the solar hybrid project at Long Semadoh KK.

“At present, 65.9 per cent of health clinics in Sarawak are classified as dilapidated, an improvement compared to 76.4 per cent during the same period last year, following the implementation of Bitara Madani since 2023,” he said.

He added that under the pilot project initiative, two new clinics — Nanga Atoi KK and Nanga Ngungun KK — have been approved with an estimated cost of RM12.8 million.

“Both clinics are currently under construction, with Nanga Atoi KK expected to be completed by the end of this year, while Nanga Ngungun KK is scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 2026,” he said.

He also said the construction project for the Sarawak Cancer Centre is now at the pre-implementation stage, with the Malaysian PWD as the implementing agency.

“Following evaluation, the initial estimated cost of the project is RM1.52 billion. The Malaysian PWD is currently preparing the preliminary report, and the construction period is scheduled between 2026 and 2031,” he said.
