SADONG JAYA: A community-based drip irrigation farming project in Iboi/Pelandok here is expected to boost household incomes while strengthening agricultural skills among local residents, particularly youths and women.

The initiative is implemented under the Integrated Regional Samarahan Development Agency (IRSDA) and was reviewed during a monitoring visit to the site led by Batang Sadong Member of Parliament, Rodiyah Sapiee, to assess progress, ensure the project remains on track and verify that it delivers maximum benefits to participants and the local community.

Rodiyah, who also chairs IRSDA’s Agricultural Development Sub-Committee, said projects of this nature not only boost income opportunities but also strengthen participants’ technical capabilities in crop cultivation.

She expressed hope that more youth and community members would take part in similar programmes in the future.

“This approach aligns with the government’s aspiration to empower community-based agriculture, encourage youth participation in modern farming, and improve the income and wellbeing of rural residents in Sadong Jaya,” she said.

The initiative, also known as Agro Farm Komuniti Sadong Jaya project, is located on land owned by the Sadong Jaya Mosque Trust Board, covering a total area of 12 acres.

It has been carried out in phases since June 2025 and currently involves 14 participants, including local youths and women.

The project adopts two cultivation methods, namely fertigation and open-field planting, with current crops including leafy chillies, bird’s-eye chillies, watermelon, cucumber, long beans and papaya, alongside plans to introduce fruit trees in the next phase.

In the long term, the project is set to become a pilot initiative under the management of Koperasi Komuniti Sadong Jaya Bhd (Agro Farm), which will serve not only to increase agricultural output but also function as a collection centre for local farm produce.
