KUCHING: The flood situation in Sarawak continued to worsen as at 4.00 pm today, with the number of evacuees showing an increasing trend.
In its latest update, Civil Defence Force (APM) said a total of 15 temporary relief centres (PPS) are currently in operation statewide, sheltering 1,172 evacuees from 349 affected families (KIR).
Serian, Simunjan and Sibu recorded the opening of new PPS, indicating deteriorating conditions in those areas.
In Serian, two new centres were opened at Dewan Baru Kampung Rimba Padi and Dewa Sri Tok Nan, while Dewan Masyarakat Gedong was activated in Simunjan and Dewan Kampung Jeriah in Sibu.
Several areas reported an increase in evacuees, particularly in Bau, Siburan, Samarahan and Simunjan.
In Bau, both PPS in Krokong – Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Bijuray Mongag and Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Blimbin – recorded rising numbers.
Siburan also saw increases at multiple centres, including SK Tanah Merah and Dewan Taman Duranda Emas.
Meanwhile, the situation remained unchanged at two PPS in Siburan, namely Balai Raya Kampung Betong Kanowit and Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Kerumboi.
In Miri, conditions improved with the official closure of PPS Dewan Serbaguna SMK Berkenu at 3.00 pm today.
APM said monitoring and response operations are ongoing as weather conditions remain uncertain, with the overall trend of victim displacement continuing to rise.
