KUCHING: Timely help from the government has helped ensure an elderly woman and her daughter enjoy better living conditions at their home here.
This comes after much repairs were carried out at their Stampin Resettlement Scheme residence under the Minor Rural Projects-Sarawak Poor Home Improvement Programme (MRP-PPRMS).
Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap said the repair works, funded with an allocation of RM15,000, were completed recently to improve the safety and living conditions of the household.
The assistance benefitted Bong, whose home underwent repairs under the Sarawak government initiative aimed at helping low-income (B40) households.
The programme, launched in 2018, provides financial support for building materials and construction works as part of the state’s broader affordable housing agenda.
The repair works were carried out through a gotong-royong effort led by Kapitan Boon Voon Min, together with members of the village committee, ensuring the project was completed efficiently while strengthening community solidarity.
Yap said the initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of vulnerable groups, particularly the elderly and single-parent families.
He added that access to a safe and stable home is essential to dignity, security and quality of life.
He also expressed appreciation to Boon and the village committee for their dedication and voluntary contributions, noting that strong community leadership plays a vital role in maximising the impact of government assistance.
Yap reaffirmed that his service centre would continue to work closely with community leaders to identify deserving cases and ensure aid under state programmes is delivered efficiently, transparently and compassionately, in line with Sarawak’s people-centric development approach.
