KUCHING: The Sarawak government has expanded its long-running Sumbangsih programme to cover more major festive celebrations, reflecting its continued appreciation for uniformed personnel who remain on duty during peak festive periods.
Minister of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the expansion includes the introduction of Sumbangsih Tahun Baru Cina and Sumbangsih Gawai Dayak, in addition to the existing Sumbangsih Raya programme.
She said the decision was announced by the Premier of Sarawak during the symbolic handover ceremony of Sumbangsih Raya 2025 and marks a significant step towards making the initiative more inclusive.
“This expansion demonstrates the Sarawak government’s concern and appreciation for members of the security forces, enforcement agencies and uniformed bodies who continue to serve during festive seasons, regardless of race or religion,” she said after chairing the Chinese New Year and Raya Sumbangsih 2026 steering committee meeting.
Fatimah explained that the programme aims to recognise the sacrifices made by personnel who work to ensure public safety and order while most Sarawakians are celebrating with their families.
For 2026, a total of 11 agencies will receive Sumbangsih contributions for both Chinese New Year and Hari Raya celebrations.
These are the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM), Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM), Immigration Department (JIM), Road Transport Department (JPJ), Prison Department (JPM), Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), Malaysian Volunteers Corps (RELA), and the Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS).
She also outlined the key dates for the Sumbangsih programme, beginning with the symbolic packaging ceremony for Sumbangsih Chinese New Year 2026 on Feb 11, followed by handover ceremony on Feb 12. The handover of Sumbangsih Raya 2026 is scheduled to take place on March 6.
Fatimah said the expanded Sumbangsih initiative underscores the state government’s commitment to fostering unity, gratitude and inclusivity across Sarawak’s multiracial society, especially during important festive occasions.
