KAPIT: A Certificate of Practical Completion (CPC) inspection was conducted on Wednesday (Jan 14) for the Batang Baleh reinforced concrete (RC) Bridge and the R1 access road to Rumah Tungku at the Nanga Gaat project site in Baleh.

The inspection covered the Batang Baleh RC Bridge crossing Sungai Semira, as well as Phase 1 Section 1 of the R1 road, which stretches 7.923 kilometres.

Works inspected also included improvements to a 500-metre junction, the construction of a spur road to Rumah Mamat, and the installation of a 76.782-metre Bailey bridge.

Deputy Minister of Digital and Hulu Rajang MP Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong said the CPC inspection is a crucial process to ensure all components of the project comply with technical specifications, safety standards and contractual requirements before being handed over for operation and maintenance.

He said the construction of roads in the Baleh area must prioritise connectivity between longhouses to facilitate mobility, reduce logistics costs and support the socio-economic development of rural communities.

Ugak also expressed hope that Phase 2 Section 2, including the construction of a bridge across Batang Baleh, can be expedited with funding from the state government.

He said the project would benefit more than 16 longhouses and significantly improve road safety for users in the area.

Among the issues raised during the inspection were the anticipated increase in traffic load, logistical challenges such as inconsistent premix supply, the remoteness of the site, and transportation constraints to the Phase 1 Section 1 construction area.

Following discussions, it was proposed that the premix works be included under Phase 1 Section 2 to address these challenges.

The inspection was conducted with the cooperation of the Upper Rajang Development Agency (URDA) and the Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA), and was attended by the Kapit Division Resident, Deputy Resident, the Bukit Mabong District Officer, representatives of relevant agencies and the contractor, Perbena Emas.
