10 individuals detained in immigration enforcement operation

SRI AMAN: A total of 10 individuals, including foreign nationals and Malaysians, were detained during an immigration enforcement operation along the Pan Borneo Highway between Sri Aman and Sarikei early this morning (Jan 17).

The Sarawak Immigration Department said the arrests were made during ‘Ops Serkap’, carried out by its Special Action Team together with enforcement officers from Kuching and Sri Aman.

The operation, which ran from 5.05 am to 5.45 am, involved 15 immigration officers conducting inspections on road users along the highway.

“A total of 38 individuals were checked, comprising 36 foreign nationals and two Malaysians.

“Those inspected included 22 foreign men, 14 foreign women and two local men, with enforcement focused on compliance with entry conditions and immigration status.

“Following further checks, 10 individuals were detained, consisting of five foreign men, three foreign women and two Malaysians,” the department said in a statement.

It added that a bus was also seized to assist investigations, along with RM7,280 in cash believed to be linked to the offences under investigation.

The detainees are being investigated under Section 12(1)(f) of the Passport Act as well as Sections 15(1)(c) and 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

Sarawak Immigration said enforcement operations would continue to ensure compliance with immigration laws and to safeguard public order and national security.
