KUCHING: The Kampung Quop Dayak bridge, which collapsed following a landslide in September 2023, has been rebuilt and is now back in use after a collaborative effort involving the government, the private sector and the local community.

Stakan assemblyman Datuk Hamzah Brahim said the bridge, a key access route for villagers, was completed in January 2026.

He said the earlier collapse had disrupted residents’ daily movement, particularly for schooling, economic activities and emergency access, making prompt action necessary to safeguard public safety.

“When the government, the private sector and the local community work together, problems can be resolved more quickly and effectively. This bridge is not just a physical structure, but a lifeline for the villagers,” he was quoted as saying in a report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS).

Hamzah said the repair and reconstruction works were made possible through a RM50,000 contribution from a private company, coupled with the active involvement of the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) and residents, who carried out the works through communal work.

He also expressed appreciation to all parties involved, particularly the villagers who contributed their time and effort to ensure the essential facility could be restored for public use.

The completion of the bridge, he said, reflected the effectiveness of a collaborative approach between leaders, the community and the private sector in delivering development with direct benefits to the people.
