BINTULU: Two food outlets have been temporarily padlocked for two weeks after inspectors found shocking hygiene conditions, including rat droppings and live rodents roaming inside the premises.

Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) said the closures were ordered following inspections by its Public Health and Environment (PHE) Section on Monday (Jan 19), after the premises were found to be in a filthy state that posed a serious threat to public health.

“The affected outlets, located at Parkcity Commercial Square and Sungai Plan Commercial Centre, were described as heavily soiled, with the team discovering rat faeces and live rats within the food preparation and business areas.

“Both premises have been ordered to close for 14 days, effective from Jan 19 until Feb 1,” the authority said.

Operators have been instructed to carry out a full and thorough clean-up during the closure period.

They will only be allowed to resume operations after passing a follow-up inspection and receiving approval from the authorities.

BDA assured that it takes cleanliness at food premises seriously and will continue to step up regular inspections to ensure consumers are protected from health risks.
