SIBU: A local man walked into a job interview hoping to secure a future in the public sector, but instead walked out in custody after testing positive for drugs during mandatory screening.
The incident occurred recently during an interview session for positions under the Sarawak Public Service Commission (SPANS), where officers from the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) Sibu were conducting routine urine tests on candidates.
The 27-year-old failed the initial screening, with results indicating the presence of methamphetamine, commonly known as syabu. He was detained immediately following the test.
He is being investigated under Section 3(1) of the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983.
The arrest is a reminder of the authorities’ firm stand to ensure all prospective civil servants are free from drug abuse before entering public service.
AADK Sibu said enforcement efforts will be intensified to achieve the national target of a drug-controlled society by 2030.
