MUKAH: An elderly woman feared missing after leaving her home in Kampung Skoyan was found safe today, bringing relief to her family and villagers.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said Ibek Ibut, 83, was discovered by villagers at 8.01 am, about one kilometre from her home.
She was found in a stable condition and was later taken by her family to hospital for further medical checks.
Following her safe discovery, the search and rescue (SAR) operation was officially called off at 8.30 am.
The woman had left her house at around 6.40 pm on Wednesday and was believed to be heading either towards a nearby river or her farm.
When she failed to return home, family members and villagers carried out an initial search in the surrounding area but were unable to locate her.
A police report was subsequently lodged, prompting the deployment of firefighters from Mukah station, located about 24 km away.
