BINTULU: Tourism Malaysia ramped up its promotional efforts with a vibrant Chinese New Year 2026 celebration at Bintulu Airport today, turning the arrival hall into a lively showcase of Malaysia’s cultural charm.
Held from 10 am to 1 pm, the event went beyond festive celebrations, serving as a strategic platform to boost momentum for the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VM2026) campaign.
The programme highlighted the nation’s rich cultural heritage to both domestic and international visitors arriving in the division.
Passengers arriving on morning flights from Kuala Lumpur and Kuching were greeted with colourful decorations and warm hospitality, reflecting Malaysia’s reputation as a friendly and culturally diverse tourism destination.
The celebration began with the symbolic ‘yee sang’ tossing ceremony, representing unity, prosperity and harmony – values that mirror the aspirations of VM2026 in fostering togetherness among Malaysia’s multiracial communities and global visitors.
A captivating lion dance performance at the arrival hall added to the festive spirit, offering travellers a glimpse into the traditions of the Chinese community.
Visitors also had the opportunity to view an exhibition of Malaysia’s traditional attire, showcasing the diverse ethnic costumes that form part of the country’s cultural identity, and strengthening its appeal as a cultural tourism destination.
Adding to the excitement were the official VM2026 mascots, Wira and Manja, who made special festive appearances and delighted visitors with interactive photo sessions.
The initiative highlights Tourism Malaysia’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the tourist arrival experience while positioning the country as a preferred destination ahead of VM2026.
