KUCHING: The replacement of ageing lifts at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) is currently underway, aimed at enhancing safety, efficiency and comfort for patients, visitors and healthcare workers.

In a post shared on Facebook, the Public Works Department (PWD) Sarawak said the project reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to upgrade public healthcare facilities and improving service delivery across the state.

“The replacement of outdated lifts at SGH will bring significant benefits by improving safety levels, reducing the risk of breakdowns and shortening waiting times, while ensuring smoother and more comfortable movement for patients, the elderly and hospital staff,” it said.

PWD revealed that the project scope involves the dismantling of four existing lift units, as well as the supply and installation of one fire lift and two passenger lifts, including related works.

The project commenced on Dec 9, 2025, with Phase 1 scheduled for completion on Oct 8 this year, followed by Phase 2 on Feb 8, 2027.

The department added that the new lifts, which are more modern and energy-efficient, will contribute to more systematic hospital operations and further enhance the overall quality of healthcare services for the people of Sarawak.
