KUANTAN, Pahang: The Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, on Friday proclaimed Universiti Islam Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah (UniPSAS) as Universiti Al-Quran Al-Sultan Abdullah Ahmad Shah Pahang (UniQSAAS).
The declaration ceremony was held at Balai Seri Temenggung, Istana Abdulaziz in Kuantan, in the presence of Tengku Ampuan of Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah; Tengku Mahkota of Pahang, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah; as well as other royal family members.
The proclamation was also witnessed by Higher Education Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, and Pahang Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail.
During the ceremony, Zambry presented the official letter confirming the name change of the university, which is wholly owned by the Pahang State Government, to Al-Sultan Abdullah.
At Istana Abdulaziz on Friday, a thanksgiving ceremony and special prayers were also held in conjunction with the 40th wedding anniversary of the Sultan of Pahang and the Tengku Ampuan of Pahang.
On Feb 6, Al-Sultan Abdullah had expressed his consent for UniPSAS to be rebranded as Universiti al-Quran, making it the first university of its kind in Malaysia.
Al-Sultan Abdullah said the rebranding is not merely a change of name, but a symbol of a clear direction to make the Quran a guiding beacon for intellectual and spiritual development in the state. – BERNAMA
